This extended 4-day Omo Valley journey offers deeper cultural immersion and wildlife experiences, visiting some of Ethiopia’s most fascinating tribal communities and natural landscapes. The tour combines UNESCO World Heritage sites with authentic tribal encounters across southern Ethiopia.
The Dorze people are master weavers known for their distinctive beehive-shaped bamboo houses and traditional cotton weaving. Their elevated villages offer stunning views and insights into sustainable mountain agriculture.
Nech Sar National Park, meaning “white grass,” is home to diverse wildlife including zebras, gazelles, and over 350 bird species. Lake Chamo provides excellent opportunities to observe some of Africa’s largest Nile crocodiles and abundant hippo populations.
The Konso people have created one of Africa’s most impressive agricultural landscapes with their ancient terraced hillsides, recognized by UNESCO for their cultural and environmental significance. Their unique “waka” wooden grave markers tell the stories of generations.
Experience multiple tribal cultures including the Hamer people with their distinctive hairstyles and jumping-of-the-bull ceremonies, the Karo tribe famous for elaborate body painting using white chalk and yellow ochre, and the semi-nomadic Dassanech people known for their intricate scarification traditions.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Addis Ababa – Flight to Arbaminch – Dorze Village
Morning flight Addis Ababa → Arbaminch. Visit Nech Sar National Park (the 'Land of Forty Springs') for wildlife and landscapes. Afternoon excursion to Dorze Village, famous for weaving, beehive-shaped huts, and cultural traditions. Overnight in Arbaminch (Haile Resort or similar).
Day 2: Arbaminch – Lake Chamo – Konso – Turmi
Morning boat trip on Lake Chamo to see giant Nile crocodiles, hippos, and birdlife. Drive to Konso, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for terraced farming and unique 'waka' grave markers. Continue to Turmi, home of the Hamer tribe. Evening visit to Hamer village, with chance to witness traditional dances or ceremonies. Overnight in Turmi (Paradise or Emerald Lodge).
Day 3: Turmi – Kara & Hamer Tribes – Key Afer Market (if Thursday)
Morning excursion to the Karo tribe, renowned for intricate body and face painting. Visit a Hamer weekly market (if timing allows). Optional chance to witness a bull-jumping ceremony (depending on season/occasion). Overnight in Turmi.
Day 4: Turmi – Dassanech Tribe – Jinka
Cross the Omo River to visit the Dassanech tribe, known for their scarification traditions and semi-nomadic lifestyle. Drive to Jinka. Afternoon visit to Ari tribe village, known for pottery, blacksmithing, and agriculture. Overnight in Jinka (tour ends here). Or flight back to Addis Ababa.
