Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Addis Ababa
Arrival in Ethiopia's high-altitude capital. Hotel transfer & rest. Depending on flight time: relaxed city walk or optional museum/market visit. Overnight in Addis Ababa.
Day 2: Addis Ababa Sightseeing
Visit the National Museum (home of Lucy, one of the world's oldest hominids). Drive up Mount Entoto for panoramic views. Ethnological Museum & octagonal St. George Cathedral. Stroll through the bustling Mercato, Africa's largest open-air market. Overnight in Addis Ababa.
Day 3: Bahir Dar & Lake Tana
Early morning flight to Bahir Dar. Boat trip on Lake Tana to visit Ura Kidane Mihret Monastery with its colorful murals. Excursion to the majestic Blue Nile Falls. Overnight in Bahir Dar.
Day 4: Gondar
Drive to Gondar, the "Camelot of Africa." Explore the Royal Enclosure with castles influenced by Portuguese & Indian styles. Visit Debre Berhan Selassie Church, famous for its angel-painted ceiling. Overnight in Gondar.
Day 5: Simien Mountains

Day 6: Scenic Drive to Axum
Full-day scenic drive through rugged mountain landscapes. Lunch & photo stops along the way. Arrive in Axum, overnight stay.
Day 7: Exploring Axum
Visit the ancient stelae field & underground tombs. Explore inscriptions and royal remains of the Axumite civilization. Visit St. Mary of Zion Church, said to house the Ark of the Covenant. Overnight in Axum.
Day 8: Yeha & Abuna Yemata – Drive to Mekelle
Visit Yeha, Ethiopia's oldest standing structure (2,500 years old). Climb to Abuna Yemata rock-hewn church, perched on a cliff with stunning frescoes. Continue to Mekelle, overnight stay.
Day 9: Lake Afdera & Erta Ale Volcano
Drive into the Danakil Depression. Visit Lake Afdera & enjoy its saltwater surroundings. Evening trek up Erta Ale Volcano to see the active lava lake. Overnight camping near the crater.
Day 10: Dallol & Salt Flats
Explore Dallol's otherworldly landscapes: colorful hot springs & sulfur fields. Visit salt miners at the flats & witness camel caravans. Return to Afdera for overnight stay.
Day 11: Journey to Semera
Drive out of the Danakil Depression. Scenic views & lunch stop en route. Overnight in Semera.
Day 12: Semera – Lalibela (Drive)
Full-day drive (7–8 hours) through the Ethiopian highlands. Scenic photo stops & refreshment breaks along the way. Arrive in Lalibela, home to the world-famous rock-hewn churches. Overnight in Lalibela.
Day 13: Lalibela Churches – Fly to Addis Ababa
